stic5G

Safe TSN for Industrial-Grade Real-Time Campus 5G

Project description
The project "stic5G" will develop an industrial 5G ecosystem that will make strong contributions to the development of 5G communications in industrial environments. The outcomes provided by stic5G will represent major milestones on the way to real-time and security-relevant industrial 5G and industry 4.0 use cases. European solutions will be developed to guarantee the sovereignty of the developed technology components and their deployment.

The project will extend existing communication technologies to build an industrial-grade platform that enables wireless, robust, real-time and secure wireless data transmission for industrial use cases. For this purpose, 5G campus networks will set up, configured, extended and integrated into so-called Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) networks. In addition, an integration of industrial standard communication protocols (PROFINET/PROFIsafe) will increase the usability of such networks in industrial environments and allows further extension of existing industrial networks. Such networks lead to numerous new use cases. Together with the associated partners and their production facilities, two of them will be explicitly analyzed, processed and validated within the project. A demonstrator will show the operation and performance of the new industrial 5G TSN campus network.

The unified solution developed in stic5G will help to increase connectivity in industrial environments for workers, machines and tools in both indoor and outdoor scenarios by combining wired and wireless networks to realize more efficient and flexible production processes.
